Product Description

Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America.

How to Play
Collect matching coloured train cards in order to build a route between two cities. The longer the route, the more train cards you must collect. Earn points when you finish a route and claim it on the board with your train carriages. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Earn more points by completing Destination Cards between distant cities.  Loose points if you don't complete your Destination Cards. Earn a bonus for having the longest continuous path of routes.

Where's the fun?
The fun is in the competition to claim routes first, sa only one or two players can use each route. Players can only perform one action on their turn, so often have to decide between claiming a route or picking up much-needed train cards. Although the points scored for claiming routes are shown on the score track, points from Destination Cards aren't claimed until the end of the game, so you never know who's winning.

How is this different to other Ticket to Ride games?
This is the original Ticket to Ride board game that has sold over 2 million copies since it was first published in 2004. It is the easiest to learn and play as it only has the basic rules (other versions add extra rules for variety). It is based on a map of the USA, so some cities take a little finding on the map if you're not familiar with the geography. However, a few games in, and you soon learn the map.

How Many Players?
This game plays equally well with the suggested range of 2 - 5 players. It makes a good 2-player game because the rules are slightly modified.

Is it Suitable for my Child?
This is a great family game as its easy to learn. The recommended playing age is 8+. Children will need to be able to read the city names in order to play Ticket to Ride.

Awards
Far too many to mention - over 20 awards worldwide

  1. One of the best.

Posted by JBD on 20th Jan 2012

I have been playing this game for some years now and have to say this is still far and away one of the best family games I have ever played. Its brilliant for 3 or more players but can equally work well for 2.
A good introduction to both card games and building games all in one.
And with the other games Europe, Marklin, Sweden and Asia extra elements have been added increasing the fun and changing the stratergy. In the oridginal I found the cards are quite small and advise anyone getting this to invest in the 1910 expansion.
