Battleship Galaxies is a board game of space combat using highly-detailed starship miniatures. It owes its origins to the original Battleship game and still retains some familiar elements of that game, but there is a great deal more to Battleship Galaxies.
Two opposing forces - the human Intergalactic Space Navy and the alien Wretcheridians - are battling for control of the space over the mining settlements of Saturn - represented by a star field hex board. The two sides have several different ship types and each has an individual reference card that defines the characteristics of that ship (e.g. weapons, movement, shields).
The game is based on scenarios that define the initial board set-up and goal of the game. Each turn, players have a number of energy points that can be spent to perform actions, such as movement or firing weapons. Combat is resolved by rolling two special dice - one with letters and the other with numbers. The results in a classic grid reference like 'G3'. The target ship's reference card determines the result. Hits on a ship are indicated by placing coloured pegs in the figure's base. Hitting a critical spot will destory the ship entirely.
