Ave Caesar - the chariot-racing game - was first produced in 1989 and has since developed a cult following due its quick and exciting play. Players are charioteers competing in the Circus Maximus; however moves are not determined by the role of a dice, but each player has a deck of cards that has only just enough to finish the race of three laps. Negotiating the chicanes and taking the best line on corners are essential tactics. At least once during the race, each player must stop in front of the emperor's stand and salute the emperor by shouting "Ave Caesar".
