6 nimmt! (aka 6 takes! and Take 6!) is a classic card game. The rules are simple and easy to teach. The aim is to avoid playing the sixth card in a sequence: if you do this, you pick up the five cards already there and score their penalty points.
Each player receives 10 cards from a deck of numbered cards. 4 cards are placed face up in a single column in the centre. Each player in their turn must put down 1 card adding to a row started by one of the initial coumn of four. The card played must be lower than a current card and it must also be the card with the closest difference.
If all cards at the end of the four rows are higher than a played card the player who played that card takes all the cards in a row of their choice and uses their card as the start card for that row.
If a player is forced to play the sixth card in a row, they take all the cards in that row and their card becomes the new start card for that row.
The fun lies in trying to figure out when to play a high card versus a low card versus a middle-of-the-road card. All players are trying to second guess what the other players are trying to do as well as not get stuck with picking up a bunch of cards they don't want.
